Caregiver Mental Health

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://www.caregiving.com/research/2021/caregiver-mental-health-survey-results

As both a disabled veteran AND the caregiver for an adult child with Autism Spectrum Disorder, I want to say that it all goes together to pile on stress. While very concerned about my son’s future, I am also concerned for how the years have passed for me after twenty years of military service. With the current downturn in our national economy and other complications of an fast slide into what I view as an unhealthy moral climate, depression has become a real thing for me. My “job” (in quotes because it is more of a “mission in life for me”) is working with military family and disabled Caregivers, so I am probably more acutely aware of the mental health danger signs than the “person on the street.” I am grateful to Caring.com for insights that I may have missed and I share them with my entire national team!
